Adrenaline had his stomach doing wild, unabashed somersaults as he tried to hold Winston up while keeping a fair speed. Surely he could just drop the man there, and fly far from the murder of ghouls behind them. One did not just wish for a ghoul to peruse through their insides, he could only assume, and he wished to spare his new friend—acquaintance, maybe—from being a mere decoy.
Frankly it was no surprise to Nellis that he, himself, had turned back to offer his assistance to Winston. No matter how foolish, no matter how massive one’s testicles had to be in order to do so. He was full of utterly imbecilic decisions, and that was not even taking into consideration his self-destructive tendencies.
All the running, and exertion, however was beginning to lay heavily against his chest. Flames licked at the bottom of his lungs, and he could taste the familiar tang of copper against his tongue. He winced, and looked up at Winston, and though his tiny, wry grin could not be seen through his mask, he felt as though his aura—or whatever—could be felt. “Need to hurry this up,” he said, and spotted Gladys heading toward a decrepit building for cover.
“Smart gal, let’s follow that one,” he said, his voice taking a sharp whiny inflecting as he felt the ghouls right on their ass. He was relying on Winston, also, to head the right direction, however. “Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go,” he said, swinging one arm around the tree-trunk back of the man and lobbing his weight into him—even if Winston had already started to go that way, Nellis was too anxious to make a break for it.
