Hello fellows,
One thing you may know about me is that I am new to the whole administration thing. I have moderated many role play games and forums and what have you, but I never designed and worked on one. While Radstorm had been planned for many years, it was not that long ago I finally sat down and worked on it myself. However, blindly I made it in proboards, when I was not aware (and I could not effectively use) the other forum hosting sites like Jcink.
I worked for a few weeks skinning and setting up our site. I did this alone, and then I reached out to my former roleplay mates like
Piper, or in the case of
Dogmeat, my brother, in order to assemble a moderation team. Some of the moderators are active,
Piper is buying a house at the moment and life has got her down--the original
Gamemaster resigned due to real life things and has left me to it. I have looked for new team members to make sure our RP experience is good... right now, luckily our community is small and I can moderate and LM your role-plays.
After some thought, investigating other role play sites, I have found that jcink seems to be a more flexible and powerful forum host than proboards. However, I cannot skin one, and I would have to look into commissioning a designer to create us a fully functional and beautiful skin so that we're as unique as we're meant to be. It would be a cleaner, nicer looking forum, that is certain. It would cost $100 or more to commission an artist, but this is something I am willing to invest if it improves the quality of our experience as a community.
However, this is something that we all must consider together, as even though I am the administrator--I am simply the administrator of a community, and I believe it is important that we, moving forward, carefully consider your opinions and feelings.
One important difference that has really made me consider moving the forum to jcink (we would keep our URL of radstorms.com, don't worry, and I'd set up a forwarding link here), is the terms of service.
Simply put, Jcink allows us to have more mature content than proboards does. Is it really necessary? I suppose not, but with Fallout, you never know if the Proboards team would then decide we are too mature for their ToS, and delete our site.
Please consider this carefully, and contribute your thoughtful and intelligent minds to the discussion. I always look forward to hearing from you.
In the event of a move, I would personally move the information over myself, and ensure that your role-plays are archived and moved over as well. The rules would remain the same, I would simply transpose them from here to there. Nothing too ground-breaking would change.
